YAY collage. Featured here are two new items that I made from a vintage tablecloth. I think it's pretty cool, but I wonder if people will think it's too weird that it might have been used for dining on at some point.
I had an interesting discussion with a friend about used clothing tolerance levels. I know some people who won't wear anything used, and I know some people who will wear a used bathing suit. Two extremes. I guess I'm ok with wearing anything used, especially if it looks like it's in great condition.
Where do you guys draw the line with used clothing/accessories? Dress, shoes, bedsheets, bathing suit?? I want to know!
i'd probably stop at used underwear, eeek! everything else seems fine though, so long as they're given a good wash in the hottest water setting and tumble dried on high heat. the wool items always suffer from terrible shrinkage, but it's better than running the risk of mites or other creepy crawlies.
ReplyDeleteHmmm I don't think a tablecloth is too weird. It might be less creepy than used clothes because chances are slim someone put this on their naked body! :) Ultimately people could do odd or gross things with anything used and that's the risk you take. I draw the line at underwear and things with stains.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I think home dec fabrics are way cute on clothes!! I have a cute coat that looks like a davenport - haha!
a lot of people are shocked at how little a line I draw when it comes to used things. i totally understand the fear some people have of buying used, but somehow i think it usually makes me like an item even more when i know it has a story. even a bathingsuit, or shoes! although i have changed a lining or two in old swimsuits when i feel weird about it! :P
ReplyDeletealso, thank you for commenting on my blog!! i have loved your designs for a while now! definitely tried on a few pieces at La Gaillarde several times!
Thanks for the tip on the Point St Charles mission. I've been meaning to make a trip out there, everyone keeps telling me how great it is! Your designs are the greatest! I'm so glad you commented! xo
Valerie- I stop at used underwear, too!
ReplyDeleteWoobie is Vegan- Oooooo yay for home dec fabrics. Ooh, I'd love to see that coat!
Meaghan- That's so cool! What a small world :-) I'm having a fashion show this Saturday at La Gaillarde....you should totally come. It's free! The show starts at 5 pm.
super thick knitwear (I feel like it can never really be cleaned thoroughly)and underwear obviously. Really anything that has been worn excessively.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super question!
ReplyDeleteUnderwear, bras and bead sheets is where I draw the line. Although if someone were to make a super cool piece out of a nice bead sheet I'd probably love it! ...I'm a walking contradiction...
Someone else also mentioned changing a bathing suit lining... why didn't I think of that!! :-)
